Paxil CR (paroxetine) is a prescription medication that is used to treat major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that helps to increase the amount of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, chemicals that send signals between nerve cells in the brain. Paxil CR works by increasing the amount of serotonin available in the brain, which helps to alleviate some of the symptoms of depression.
Paxil CR is a type of SSRI called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Serotonin is a chemical in the body that sends a signal to help a person feel better. Paxil CR treats a variety of symptoms of depression, including the reuptake of serotonin in the brain.
Paxil CR is most commonly prescribed to treat major depressive disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and seasonal affective disorder. It is also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder. When you take Paxil CR, your body’s reabsorption of serotonin, hormones that transmit signals between nerve cells in the brain. Paxil CR treats symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder.
Paxil CR should be taken exactly as your doctor has told you. Your dosage will be based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Generally, Paxil CR will work best if you take it with food, rather than a heavy meal. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
Paxil CR is usually taken once a day, with or without food. If you take Paxil CR every day during the week, your dosage will be higher. If you take Paxil CR in the week before you go to bed, your dosage will be lower. However, if you take Paxil CR on a Friday night, your dosage may be higher. Check with your doctor if you are unsure.
If you miss a dose of Paxil CR, go back to your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. If you take Paxil CR on a daily basis during the week, your dosage will be higher. However, if you take Paxil CR in the week before you go to bed, your dosage may be lower. Your doctor may adjust your dosage as needed.
When you are taking Paxil CR, avoid foods that are high in fat, alcohol, andiningers. These may cause the brain to get more serotonin than normal, which can cause depression. Do not take Paxil CR if you are using antidepressants or prescription medications for depression, including Paxil CR.
